Rental Guide for International Visitors

How to use our Campervans

Search & Reserve

Search by your desired dates, select a vehicle, and enter options. Pay via credit card to confirm the booking and create an account. Feel free to ask questions via LINE or our contact form.

Preparation

Check your booking anytime on My Page. Complete the 'Smart Check-in' by registering driver's licenses and confirming rules in advance for a smoother departure.

Departure Day

Arrive at the rental location on time. MUST bring your Driver's License. International visitors need a Passport and an IDP (Geneva) or Official Translation. *Translation proxy service available upon advance request.

Return & Completion

Refuel to the departure level before returning. We'll check the vehicle's condition together. Notify us if your return time changes. Finally, leave a trip review on My Page to complete the process.

Is your flight schedule confirmed?
Do you have experience driving in snow? (If visiting Hokkaido in winter)

Requirements for Taiwan (台湾)

Passport (Original)

Must be valid for the duration of your stay.

Valid Driver's License from Home Country (Original)

Must be valid and original.

International Driving Permit (IDP)

Must have a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) issued under the Geneva Convention. *Translation alone is NOT accepted.

COPIES or PHOTOS are NOT accepted. You must bring the ORIGINALS.

Payment & Deposit

Security Deposit

100,000 JPY

Required at pick-up via Credit Card. Refunded within 2 weeks after return if no damage/accidents.

NOC (Non-Operation Charge)

Drivable: 100k JPY / Non-drivable or long repair: 200k JPY / Total loss or rollover: 400k JPY

Insurance & Anshin Coverage

  • Mandatory 'Anshin Coverage': 3,000 - 4,500 JPY/day (Depends on the reserved vehicle)
  • Bodily Injury: Unlimited (includes mandatory insurance)
  • Property Damage: Unlimited (Deductible 100,000 JPY)
  • Vehicle Damage: Up to Market Value (Deductible max 100,000 JPY each for Exterior/Interior)
  • Personal Injury: Up to 30,000,000 JPY (while riding)

*Insurance does not cover accidents due to negligence (e.g., drunk driving, lost keys, fueling error).

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation fees apply based on the date of cancellation: - Upon booking ~ 30 days prior: 30% - 29 ~ 15 days prior: 50% - 14 ~ 3 days prior: 80% - 1 day prior / Same day: 100% *Please refer to the terms for details.

Late Returns

If you will be late due to traffic, you MUST contact the store. A late fee will be charged upon return.

Winter Driving (Hokkaido)

WINTER CAUTION

Roads in Hokkaido are frozen from Nov to Apr. All vehicles are equipped with studless winter tires, but driving requires extreme caution. If you have no experience driving on snow, we strongly recommend changing your itinerary.

Traffic Rules & Etiquette

Keep LEFT

Japan drives on the left side of the road. Steering wheel is on the right.

STOP Sign

You must come to a COMPLETE STOP at this sign (red triangle).

NO Alcohol

Strictly prohibited. BAC limit is 0.00%. Instant jail time.

Refueling

Use 'DIESEL' (Green nozzle) for most camper vans. Check the fuel cap.

Prohibited Actions

  • No Smoking

    Smoking inside the vehicle is strictly prohibited. Cleaning fees will apply if violated.

  • No Fire while Driving

    Using stoves or fire while driving is strictly prohibited. Please park safely before use.

  • No Drunk Driving

    Drunk driving is strictly prohibited by law. BAC limit is 0.00%.

  • No Illegal Camping

    Parking or sleeping in non-designated or illegal areas is prohibited.

  • No Subleasing

    Lending the vehicle to a third party is a breach of contract.

  • Others

    Modifications, bringing hazardous materials, excessive damage, and overloading are prohibited.

Important Notes

  • Electrical Equipment

    When using lights or fridges for a long time, connect to an external power source at an RV park to charge the sub-battery. A/C and microwaves require external power.

  • Cleaning & Trash

    Please clean the interior before returning. Take your trash with you, or a disposal fee (5,500 JPY) will apply.

  • Refueling

    Return the vehicle with the same fuel level. If insufficient, fuel cost + handling fee (5,500 JPY) will apply.

  • Water Tanks

    Please empty and clean the fresh and waste water tanks before returning.

  • Belongings

    Ensure no rental equipment is missing, and check for personal belongings before you leave.

Troubleshooting & Accidents

Vehicle Breakdowns

If you hear strange noises or equipment fails, stop safely and contact the JAPAN ROAD TRIP Support Desk immediately.

In Case of an Accident

No matter how small: 1. Ensure safety/call Ambulance (119) 2. Call Police (110) for a report 3. Call JAPAN ROAD TRIP Support *No police report = NO insurance coverage.

Q.Can I drive with a standard international driving permit?

A.Yes, you can drive all our camper vans with a valid standard IDP (Geneva Convention 1949).

A.Yes, we have pet-friendly vehicles. Please use the 'Pet Friendly' filter when searching.

Q.Is there a mileage limit?

A.No, there is no daily mileage limit. Enjoy your trip!
